punishment
It's two in the morning and I can't bring myself to get to bed [promos! nightmares! mug!]. I don't think I'm an insomniac, no. Probably just nocturnal. Or maybe it's simply my way of spanking myself for not mugging hard enough or soon enough.
Where's my valium?!
custard creams
How do you eat your custard creams?
Lots of people seem to like splitting them apart and licking off the cream before chomping on the cookie. Maybe they think the double-cookie deck's too much to handle? But I personally prefer nibbling at both layers of the custard cream concurrently (the substantial bite being
so much more satisfying). Today, after a long absence, custard creams made their way once more into the cookie cupboard. You know, I don't remember ever being half so fond of them as I am now... perhaps the fact that I'd had a measly lunch accounted for the craving (school food's indescribably vile). Nevertheless, I had a most satisfying dinner -- custard creams are divine when dipped in hot vanilla :] I have
almost decided to make them a staple of my otherwise dreary diet... Pity they're so calorically sinful :[
choices
A few minutes ago, I was going to say I wish I didn't have to make my own choices, that all the choosing'd be taken care of by somebody, anybody, as long as I was spared the responsibility. I'm so tired of feeling stupid and regretful and discontented, and having no one to blame but myself for all the wrong choices I've ever made. If somebody else had made them, I'd have at least the poor comfort of laying the blame at their feet. I wished I were made to live life by an ultimatum.
It didn't take long before I snapped out of such revolting defeatism. I shall
never live my life on anybody else's terms. Never never. It's
my life and I'll choose what to do with it [angsty stomp].
Just that sometimes, it's so
hard to have to live down failure.
jig!
It was just one of those things...
Just one of those crazy flings!
One of those bells that now and then rings
Just one of those things...
It was just one of those nights,
Just one of those fabulous flights...
A trip to the moon on gossamer wings
Just one of those things
If we'd thought a bit of the end of it,
When we started painting the town,
We'd have been aware that our love affair
Was too hot, not to cool down
So goodbye dear, and amen
Here's hoping we meet now and then
It was great fun!
But it was just one of those things
--
Just one of those things by Cole Porter, 1956
Wonderful song, one of those delightful jazz concoctions that make you wanna just pick your feet up and jig! Go listen!

waiting
I hate waiting. And worse, I hate waiting in vain. I hate the anticipation that compels me to wait, the anticipation that dishes out false hope, which leads eventually to unavoidable disappointment. I hate that worst.
the chaise longue
Dad brought back a wonderful chaise longue from his office last week, and ever since then I've been grabbing every opportunity to get my arse on it -- talk about superior ergonomics! Granted, it looks rather tacky (it's got this bit of detachable fur resting on the navy blue kid leather) but it's fantastically comfortable (yes, even the fur patch :]). I'd much rather sleep in it than on my bed (which I always fall off), and I would too, if dad let me. Instead, he's insisted that it be put outside in the patio, so that on the rare evenings when he does make it home before midnight, he can rest his bad back on it, and watch his kungfu movies on the telly. So I settle instead, for using it past nine o'clock. I'll put on a nice cd, shut my eyes and take a nap, after which I'll awake at elevenish and ... :] never you mind.
the ghastly truth
Am a pseudoantiromantic. Shite.
i shall
When I grow up, I shall earn bucketloads of money and as and when I
feel like it, I shall pop over to the airport and fly away for a nice two-day getaway to some obscure part of Italy, where I'll have breakfast in bed, roam the crooked lanes and bridges, catch an opera, and breathe in the glorious scent of freshly-baked focacia. I shall remain a fashionable bachelorette, staying in my two-room apartment decorated fleamarket fashion, and sleep in my four poster bed (complete with fluffy mattress and soft, clean white cotton bedsheets) adorned with a tawny organza canopy to envelope me in golden luxury. I shall collect black and white photographs and old movies and magazines and fill my home with them. I shall light candles in the evening, buy my own blood-red roses and have dinner in the balcony, with soft jazz piping in the background. I shall have a walk-in closet and when my bed feels too empty I shall sleep there, protected by my monstrous wardrobe. And when the ennui becomes unbearable, I shall speed down the highway in my zippy little roadster and put an end to the boredom.
when did you leave heaven
Have fallen in love with Lisa Ekdahl. Chanced upon
When Did You Leave Heaven a few days back, and ever since then it's been on the stereo, and wafting round in my head. It's funny how all the songs she chose apply, and despite the fact that they're all jazz classics done over time and time again, she makes them fresh once more -- she's got a delightful European accent which only adds to the romance. This, coupled with her girlish, child-like voice and a wonderful piano-bass-drum trio, makes listening a veritable 'trip to the moon on gossamer wings' :]
kitchen god
Today, I baked. Rather, I exploded -- darned muffins blew up in the oven.
Honestly. I know people burn them solid or scorch them black, but WHO ACTUALLY MANAGES TO DETONATE MUFFINS?! They were fine for a while, and then they started
bubbling, gurgling and hissing away, and suddenly, BOOM! all three of them had blown their tops off. The other two followed suit real quick -- mass suicide I tell you.
I am obviously
not made for such plebeian tasks. Shall resign myself to my patrician fate.
wwf
For a quarter of today, I baked in school, allowing my brain juice to simmer and stew and digest all things physics. And loathe as I am to admit it, school really is a good place to cram -- apart from the grubby loos and crummy ventilation. Everywhere, muggers abound, and you're forced to face up to the bleak future you'll be left with should you mess up your promos. The blistering heat in this awful pressure cooker that is rjc is pretty catalytic. I feel more productive than I've been the whole year, pottering about at home and luxuriating in air-conned bliss.
It's all so competitive, and I refuse to end up a loser. Why, when there's so much to be wrestled and won?
It's very sad, having to join this deplorable rat race. Sad, but inevitable. So much for being an optimist.

hair there and everywhere
Quiz time darling -- what's worse than pms?
BHD, believe me. BHD, or bad hair day if you've not already figured out, is bad. Not only because it's awfully Malaysian (Sdn Bhd et al), but also because it makes me grumpy, unkempt and headachey. A poisonous mix guranteed.
Stay away.
