  the stuff of dreams

Salagadoola mechicka boola bibbidi-bobbidi-boo...
Put 'em together and what have you got?
Bibbidi-bobbidi-boo!

A dream is a wish your heart makes
When you're fast asleep...
In dreams you will lose your heartaches
Whatever you wish for, you keep.

Have faith in your dreams and someday,
Your rainbow will come smiling thru
No matter how your heart is grieving,
If you keep on believing,
the dream that you wish will come true.

  chronic insomnia

My sleeping patterns need fixing. Because I have neglected to select the appropriate time-zone, the odd hours at which I update my blog are not reflected, which is definitely a good thing :] You see, I update my blog as late and early as 5 in the morning, and not because I'm an early-riser, but that I'm an all-nighter. My mom calls it the hooker pattern. Which is rather true I suppose -- who else keeps such ungodly hours, apart from hookers and chronic insomniacs?! Suggestions anybody? Drop me a note: antipoof@hotmail.com.
  minor revamp

Overcome with a sudden urge to ... tweak, I was toying round with the idea of renaming this blog, but decided that it'd be too inconvenient, what with the url all fixed and all. So instead, I've directed my efforts to minor revamps involving bits of Latin (love the language) and namechanges etc. Still can't decide what to call myself. Am waiting for that sudden bolt! of inspiration.

  lotions and potions

I took my classmate shopping today, in search of a birthday present for his girlfriend. It was hilarious how bewildered he was by all things girl :] So here's a mini glossary of girly jargon to make shopping easier for all you clueless lotharios in search of a nice present for your luvved one (Christmas draws near!). Or at the very least, make some sense of the stuff at the counter. Here we go!

body glitter: comes in lotion or dust form, applied to face and body for twinkling
bronzing powder: for face and body; used to create tanned and healthy glow
brow gel: clear gelatinous liquid used to shape and hold in place the eyebrows
lip gloss: aka lip glass (note: NOT lip balm!); clear or colored liquid smeared across lips for fullness and shine (and pout)
rouge: aka blush; pink powder applied to cheeks restrainedly, otherwise cheeks end up like baboon's bottom
scent: aka perfume; light frangance, usually fresh and fruity (avoid overpowering stenches)
scrub: for foot, face or body; used for exfoliation, leaving skin soft and supple
shimmer: used to highlight eyes and cheekbone
tint: for lips and cheeks; subtly stains them a delicate pink (very pretty)

Check out Stila, BeneFit, Urban Decay, MAC and Bobbi Brown!
These brands have cool products with funky packaging (great for gifts) and can be found in most department stores. Alternatively, if you're looking for convenience, The Body Shop has most things, including bath products like hot oils, body scrubs and loufas.

Happy shopping!

  pins and needles

We were at Frederick Lee today for the wedding dress fit and I must say, if I ever got married, that'd be the LAST place on earth I'd go to for a gown. They are too darned slow!!! Because of them, I broke my shoe, and very nearly, my knee.

What happened was, after being made to stand for ages as they pintucked and did-this-and-that to the dress, my legs zonked off. You know that awful numbing sensation you get prior pins-and-needles that just paralyses you? Yes, that. So I thought, if I turned my ankle slowly and gently, I'd avoid the nasty pins-and-needling right? WRONG. It couldn't have been worse! The pain, I assure you, was excruciating. So much so that I lost my balance and tripped over my right foot. Snap! went the white stiletto and crrrack! went my knee. And there went two hours of careful fitting as the dress got dragged out of place while I made my elegant swoop to the floor.

Oh feck it.
  s'wonderful!

S'wonderul, s'marvelous
You should care for me.
S'awfully nice, s'paradise
S'what I love to see...

You've made my life so glamorous
You can't blame me for feeling amorous.
Oh! S'wonderful, s'marvelous!
That you should care for me!

  sop therapy

I nursed my migraine by playing heartache-inducing soppy crap on the telly all day, in the hope that the throbbing in my cranium would get transferred to my apparently-frigid-and-perhaps-non-existent heart.

Guess what? It worked better than valium.
It put me to bed for eight straight hours! Have emerged more lightheaded and lighthearted than ever :] I should do this more often. Talk about alternative medicine!
  blasted

I feel disgustingly insecure around debater schmucks. They're a sinful indulgence -- you can't help but feel drawn towards the interesting conversation they provide and warped insights they possess, but it's like walking in a minefield when you're around them. You never know when they're going to blast whatever you say to smithereens, leaving you aghast at your stupidity, and utterly defenceless.

It's awfully sexy :]
Not the debaters. Just what they do.

  mr wimpole

On hindsight, it may have been a good thing we didn't name the wabbit Mr Wimpole after all. Knowing my mom's fetish for shortening names, he'd end up being called Wimpy. Now just because my brother's poofy, doesn't mean the poor sod'll have to have poofiness forced onto him.

I suppose even .. urrgh.. Bunnie isn't half as bad as Wimpy. Right?

  arrogant bitch attitude

Seven years of the GEP. Seven short-lived years of privilege and fun. It's certainly nurtured an arrogance one would deem unbefitting, especially after a particularly unlucky day at work when you feel disgustingly plebeian. Sourgrapes would probably tell you it's impossible to gauge accurately a child's potential at the age of nine, and more often than not, sheer dumb luck was what it took to get into the program. It's true of course, luck playing a big part, but obviously there's more to it than that.

Some of us blossomed, some of us fizzled out. Yet we all share one thing in common -- the privilege of being given the chance to bask in an elitist environment, which served not only as a buffer against the harsh competition among the express plebs, but also as a hotbed of dreams where we were each taught to believe we could achieve whatever we sought to accomplish, if we believed. Because we had an edge, because we were ... gifted. Being in the GEP's not simply a privilege, it is a responsibility. It's rather like a freemasonry where as members, we are driven by pride to be the best because it is our duty to live up to the GEP mantle.

Getting chucked into the most 'express' of courses in jc (medicine) is indeed a revelation. Left to slug it out without the convenient GEP buffer's not fun at all. Egos get bruised and pride trips and falls as you realise there are countless others who're just as driven, just as intelligent, and just as gifted. You learn to respect the tenacity of those "awful express muggers" and the results they reap, and gradually you learn to shed the complacency instilled by over-confidence as you get down and dirty yourself (I can't lose out!! Not to these plebs!! :P)

Though those halcyon days are over, they'll never be forgotten as we trudge along and fight tooth and nail with the rest of the competition. I'll miss it, always.
  wabbit

My poofy brother's got a new wabbit. I suggested it be named Mr Wimpole. That's been shortlisted along with
1. Bunny
2. Bunnie
3. Bunnie wabbit

Ooh. It's just been decided -- Bunnie it is!
Told you he was poofy.

  my ct

I wasn't being fair -- she's really not at all anal. I really shouldn't be complaining, having been spared from white slips the whole year already. Awfully sorry :[ The whole system's actually very reasonable and it's easy to take advantage of it without realizing when you're going overboard, and I obviously have.

Bugger. Now I've become a bleeding rj propagandist.

Come to rj all you sorry slobs and have the time of your lives. Yippee. You could drink vodka in the loo and just might get away with it. Beat that :P

  crusty feet

My feet've been suffering from an onslaught of pustulent blisters that are taking forever to scab. There're five on each foot and all ten of them are at various stages of bleeding. It's torture everytime I step into the bath where warm water stings my feet, and searing hot pain sizzles like knives slashing all across. I feel a lot like the little mermaid who had to endure such pain (possibly less) in order to sashay about enticing the prince with her slender, graceful form (well, that'd be me if I lost 20 kilos and went for leg-extension surgery) -- too bad she never gets him (story of my life :P)

Some of them have got bits of yellow crust round the edges and those hurt worst. When they get soaked they turn white and look suspiciously like raw flesh. Some itch awfully and it's embarassing how I have to bend over every so often to stick my fingers into my shoe and give them a good scratch. They're all going to leave indelible brown spots all over my feet and I shall have to come up with a more fascinating reason for them other than the fact that I've got simply no luck with shoes. Or feet. Ha! Shall instead declare I went on a jesuit pursuit of pain and sacrifice as penance for wanton lust and sinful sloth. Father Bosco would be so delighted. No more rosaries for me!
  almost done

Only math left to be collected, and it'll all be over. Not too bad, almost what I'd expected so I feel somewhat indifferent. Pity about bio though, hooray for physics! Hopefully math won't turn out disasterous.

  the eve

I hate hate hate hate hate hate results day.

A whole week of rest, with the unpleasant prospect of results chucked far away at the back of my mind, and I'd almost managed to convince myself I wouldn't dissolve into a bag of nerves the eve of doom. Should've known twas all wishful thinking, considering the innumerable nightmares I've already had the past week despite NOT thinking about results during the day. Darned subconcious -- decent sleep's not even possible.

Shite bloody shite. Sucks to Newton and Einstein and Mendel and Faraday!!

my favorite things: the pre-mature christmas shopping list

Disclaimer: Girls only.
(Always good to have an early start :])

1. BeneFit!
to-die-for packaging, fab products! (check out BeneTint!)
2. Lulu Guinness
whimsical, humorous bags (and now shoes too!)
3. Anya Hindmarch
check out "Be a Bag"! lovely, simply lovely.

And loads more, too many to mention :] This is after all, a pre-mature shopping list. Oh dear .. wouldn't want to see what it'd be like when I'm done fantasising. Eek!
  chop chop

Lardidar. Haircut today, and for the first time, I stained my hair. A subtle coppery red :]

It was pretty exciting actually, watching her mix the colors together. The actual muck looked like curry, but once the stuff got rinsed out, shimmery red streaks unveiled themselves and it looked alright, probably subtle enough for me to scrape by without getting white-slipped *whips out rosary* <-- blasphemy! ahh!

Then again, I have rj's most anal CT so it's pretty hard to say ... urrgh. I wish they'd all sod off.

  ms ting's theme

Oh, I can't take another heartache
Though you say you're my friend
I'm at my wits end
You say your love is bona fide
But that don't coincide
With the things that you do
When I ask you to be nice

You say you gotta be
Cruel to be kind, in the right measure
Cruel to be kind, it's a very good sign
Cruel to be kind, means that I love you
Baby, you gotta be cruel to be kind

Well, I do my best to understand dear
But you still mystify, and I wanna know why
I pick myself up off the ground
To have you knock me back down
Again and again
And when I ask you to explain

You say you gotta be
Cruel to be kind, in the right measure
Cruel to be kind, it's a very good sign
Cruel to be kind, means that I love you
Baby, you gotta be cruel to be kind

:]
  ms ting

Have you ever come across a gem of a person you like so much that you know she'll be a part of your life for a long time to come? Ms Ting's exactly that. Her acerbic wit and deliciously warped sense of humour are things that few of us ever get to enjoy in this horribly rigid education system. She's intelligent, sassy, masochistic, Evil (cruel to be kind HAS to be her theme song), and best of all, Catholic :] stuff you never find in express teachers (God they are SO common). So Ms Ting, don't blame me for being snobby and elitist. You made me all that, and more (not in a bad sense though :P), by showing me how much I'd miss upon leaving the gep. I love you, and you're going to be my son's Godma and my bridesmaid and you're going to be at my convocation (in exactly that order hahaha :P).

Keep in touch always, thank you so very much for everything!

  the kit

Thanks for the ... gift :] Had a good laugh! My mom was totally shocked though, especially after she found it in my bag! She thought I really got pregged hahahaha :P
  sloth

Gloat. Yes I shall GLOAT! It's ... ooh! it's 11 and I've just tumbled out of bed without the least bit of guilt. No more unmugged chapters of physics, chemistry, bio and math and NO MORE claustrophobic worry over whether or not I'd make the 8am deadline for the exam. It's OVER. And in the afternoon, I shall trip downtown for a visit to school, SHOPPING! (ZARA!!!!!), movies, and best of all, tea with my favorite teacher (love you loads Ms Ting!).

Good riddance to a whole week of endless cramming and sleepless nights. Hallooooo FUN!!!
