  thick and bushy

Hahaha I've just reviewed the sperm donor list, and I've realized I'm noticeably drawn to men who've thick and bushy eyebrows (now what were you thinking :]), along with dark and prominent features. A couple look somewhat Jewish. Anyway, what started this silly post was actually "I Want Love" by Elton John (wait, I can explain!). You see, when I first saw his video, it was Robert Downey Jr (ber hottie) who starred. He did the lip synching so well I thought it was him singing!! Then to my horror, I realized t'was Poof King himself doing the warbling. Argh. Elton John is one sly slug. It works though, I'll admit. When I listen to it (like now), I simply superimpose Robert Downey Jr's face over in my head and I'll end up having to put it on repeat :] I think Ally should've just stuck with him; Larry was indisputably the best of all the weirdos she ever went out with (not to mention the cleverest).

  humdeedum

Oh goody :] I've just finished burning two new discs! The first's a hoard of accumulated tunes I've been collecting for yonks from old musicals (postwar, '60s) -- astaire, kelly, sinatra, et al. They're so old they have this scratchy vinyl fizzle in the background that's really quite nice, though if you're not into antiquated stuff you'll find it irksome and probably suffer an awful headache (bang marc!). As I was telling colin earlier on, it's rather surprising how I've not gone gaga over vinyls yet (the absence of a gramaphone maybe :]). But they're supposed to have a 'purer' sound, whatever that means. Also on this disc are things from seriously ancient cartoons (cinderella, sleeping beauty) hahaha :] and la Marilyn (I'm sure you know which song shoo!). The second one's rather ordinary, just a sprinkling of singable melodies from mostly obscure cartoons (thumbelina, the swan princess etc). It's for the loo :] Okiedokie, the sun's about to rise, and it's time I hopped into bed.
  would you?

He holds her in his arms.
Would you? Would you?
He tells her of her charms.
Would you? Would you?
They met as you and I,
And they were only friends.
But before the story ends...

He'll kiss her with a sigh.
Would you? Would you?
And if the girl were I
Would you? Would you?
And would you dare to say,
"Let's do the same as they."?
I Would. Would you?

  one of those things

stuff I keep on my bed
squashed pillow, bedbug-repellent pillow, bolster, thick comforter

stuff I keep on my nightstand
a shadeless lamp (bryan broke that), lots of books and cds, a box of letters, my rosary, and sometimes my mobile

CDs that are in easy reach at all times
lisa ekdahl, brian mcknight, jay chou, assorted jazz things i happen to be listening to, a coupla burnt cds, oh yes, and pepe's latenight betty (fab latin jazz!)

stuff that I do every morning
check mobile for overnight messages, stretch, groan, wash up

stuff that I put on my face every morning
facewash (neutrogena, boot's cucumber wash) and moisturizer

stuff that I have in my handbag
absolute essentials: mobile, wallet, mints, lip gloss, touch-up kit (during bad-face days)

story behind my username
was mourning the loss of innumerable hotties to the opposite sex when i decided upon "antipoufe"

longest time i've stayed out of the country/where
slightly over three weeks in europe (england, france, germany, switzerland, italy and other assorted principalities all at once)

favorite high school memory
too many to mention :] but esther, shoomie, deb, stef and joy feature in lots of them though -- love you all *smackeroo*

dream wedding
private ceremony in an ancient, cosy, flower-filled church, all my best friends in attendance, vera wang dress, dad giving me away, mom decorating the church and calming the jitters, driving away in a vintage car with the "just married" cans tinkling along behind, night party under a marquee with jazz band attached and lots and lots of dancing afterwards (dresscode: black and white '50s!), oh and a nice suite for the night *wink* (preferrably with long bath :]). no shotguns for me!

favorite quote
"you're about as useful as a one-legged man in an arse-kicking contest"

my first heartbreak happened when i was...
four. had my heart broken by a carrot-head in nursery. on monday he brought me my toothbrush and slept next to me during naptime, by wednesday, i was dumped. shite :P

one thing I'll never understand about the opposite sex
their obsession with what's down there

TV character I'd most want to be
carrie from sex and the city. but i don't mind being spike either. yum! :]

would like to be a guest on...
oprah. hawhaw :P seriously, it'd probably be monty python (but i doubt they do guests)

weird sleeping habits
i have a nasty habit of sleeping on my tummy, so i always wake up in the morning thinking "shite. squashed the chest again." oh and i have trouble staying up on the bed. somehow or other i usually manage to fall off once every night -- all that tossing and turning. i also like to curl myself up into a ball and burrow deep into my comforter to prevent my toes from freezing (they're always cold)

favorite song right now
toss up between have yourself a merry little christmas (my favorite carol) and i will by tuck and patti

line from any song
"I know that love's a game, but I'm puzzled just the same, was I the moth or flame?"

disney songs known by heart
part of your world by ariel, a dream is a wish your heart makes from cinderella, and probably lots more. but those are my favorite disney cartoons.

dream house
tribeca or fifth avenue penthouse, apartment in kensington -- but those are just locations. specifically, my dream house would probably be an apartment with a really high ceiling complete with a skylight (hence the penthouse option) with a great sound system and luxurious king-sized bed :] alternatively, a cosy little apartment crowded with random oddments decorated fleamarket-style

favorite pair of shoes
the most functional pair would have to be the black maryjanes, but my mom has lots of lovely shoes that i snitch on occasion :] so no, i don't have a favorite. yet.

three favorite cartoon characters right at this second
cow, mojojojo, buttercup

magazines I read on a regular basis
all the usual glossies and fashion rags and whatever's in mom's loo, but staples would be cosmogirl, instyle, vogue, 8days, glamour

movies I'd watch over and over
funny face, sabrina, gone with the wind, the sound of music, my fair lady, breakfast at tiffany's, gigi, funnygirl
what can i say :] i belong in the '50s!

five snacks I enjoy
seaweed, custard creams, scones, famous amos chocolate no-nut, vanilla ice-cream

my top five guilty pleasures
spending hours in the loo, overdosing on carbo, reading trash, overspending, happy endings

places i'd like to runaway to
italy, especially rome and venice. i'd like paris too.

007: "So, you live to die another day."

Movie premieres are highly overrated. Went for the Bond one on Monday and was anticipating with great excitement the prospect of meeting Beautiful People :P~ but Urrgh. It was mostly just one rowdy crowded mess that filled the whole floor and left little room to breathe. Haha it's funny how local female starlets affect poses a la Nicole Kidman (tossing their limp hair over their boney right shoulders and simultaneously doing a chin dip complete with I'm-so-sexy smile), not realizing how they just can't carry it off the way she can *bitchbitch* :P Anyway, it was REALLY good (okay fine so the punchlines were flaccid and the script completely inane -- but who watches 007 for an oscarworthy plot anyway?). Fast cars and diamonds galore (the baddie's "expensive acne"), not to mention hotbods (Halle Berry's). The gadgets were simply fab (the invisible car!!), and so were Judi Dench and John Cleese :] It's one smooooth swaggerific thrill-ride!

PS: And you HAVE to catch the 007 Heinekken commercial with John Cleese in it!! It's laugh-your-arse-off funny!

  day eight

Surgery today. Legs, breats, abdomen.
Lessons: Everybody looks the same inside (give or take a few cysts). And blacker people don't have blacker blood.

Hmm. There's this instrument that the surgeons use to burn through the layers skin and flesh, and when used, the burnt meat gives off a nauseating odour that smells rather ... sugary, for lack of a word to describe it. They say it smells like bak-kwa but I don't think it does. It's not very pleasant.
  day six/seven

So here I am now, in Tan Tock Seng, delving once again into the government sector (was here two years ago). Today, I started off with Radiology. For the uninitiated, that's the X-ray department. The most expensive bit of the hospital, but also that which generates the most income (almost all patients come here to get their diagnoses). Five different parts to Radiology -- MRI, Ultrasound, CT Scans, Angioplasty/Fluoroscopy, in addition to the good ole 20-bucks-a-picture X-ray. Angioplasty's the only exciting bit here, since it's invasive (ie hands-on ops are carried out so you actually SEE some live action). Observed that, and the stenting of an aneurysm. Basically, they make a teeny slit in the patient's blood vessel and thread some guidewire in after which they, in the case of an angioplasty, insert the "balloon" and then inflate it to dilate the vessel, or in the case of the stenting, insert the stent and open it up to treat the aneurysm (dilation and thinning of the vessel to breakage point; imminent danger of stroke/death). I make it sound SO easy don't I :]

Conclusion: I am NOT going to do radiology. Ever.
Haha true to form, I've failed to keep on-task with my attachment notes. Oh well, here I am back again, before everything dissolves.

day five

Paediatrics today. Fairly uneventful. Babies smelt wonderful :] (talcum powder and an undefinable scent that only babies have), and were so adorable! Especially this rolypoly little 3-month-old heartbreaker. A veritable Gerber baby -- light fuzzy hair, rosy cheeks and gummy grin, with one foot in his mouth and the other kicking the air, complete with perfect googagle and rose-petal grip :]

So that wraps up the private sector stint, which has been absolute holidayish fun!

  day four

Most exciting day, this was. Dermie first, followed by Plastics. Contrary to what I'd expected, my fears were unfounded. Dermatology in the private sector's not at all like that in government hospitals. Mostly because you don't actually see any people with disgusting fungal patches or suffering from any real skin disease. It's mostly Indonesian taitais and local celebs hiding behind their sunglasses (ironically to avoid attracting attention -- but honestly, who gives a ratsarse?) queueing up for their IPL/Cool Touch treatment (read: wrinkle-eraser/pore-minimalizer). You get the idea. The REAL fun was at Plastics :] (Dr Harry Fok, Mt E #14-16 in case you ever want to get fixed). Sat in on a nose job. He made a slit through the nostril using scissors no less (it made an awful noise) and shoved in a silicon stick. Looked pretty easy -- it was over in half an hour. Didn't see anything else boohoo but I did get to sit in on a few consultations, comprising of mostly the same clientele. An Indonesian taitai just walked in, like how one'd consult a GP for flu medicine, and asked for a lipo ("We can fit you in first thing tomorrow morning. Yes, you'll be fine in time for your holiday on the 30th."), also a wealthy teen who'd done her nose, chin and breasts, made similar arrangements. I felt quite sick at the end of it all. It really hits you like a nice tight slap how warped our perception of beauty is. Then again, seeing how convenient and easy everything is, I can't help but wonder too if I'll end up liposucking myself a few years down the road.

  day three

Ooh today was great :] Had a peek up arses at the colon specialist's (think I've done all the orifices, 'cept for the nasal passages, but that'll come next week): Dr Teoh, acsian alumnus (sidenote -- they almost always pass the door test :P), really nice and unassuming, and very very funny. Spent the afternoon watching him revive a critically ill old man whose stomach and duodenum were bleeding from ulcers and broken blood vessels, whose oesophegus was smothered in *shudder* fungus, whose lungs were clogged by decades of accumulated nicotine, whom nobody else would work on because it seemed like nothing could be done. Because his intestines were in a state of utter disrepair, they'd cut a hole on the left of his lower abdomen to pull out a bit of the colon so that the fecal matter could be excreted into the plastic bag enclosing the exposed bit of intestine. What was most disturbing, apart from the *shuddershudder* fungus, was when the doc inserted a long cotton swab into the foot-long incision down his abdomen that had been stapled shut to obtain blood samples for the infection tests.

Will be doing dermatology tomorrow... am not really looking forward to it though. Have a particular aversion to fungal infections (as seen above) and acne (do you suppose they're visually contagious? Urrgh). After which, if luck permits, I'll be moving on to plastic surgery :] which ought to be fun and deliciously scandalous (XXX had her nose done! YYY had her tummy tucked!!) The great thing about these clinics? They're a two minute walk away from Taka :]

  day one
yeah deb!! Jordi Labanda's absolutely wonderful :P

Anyway. I've spent all day today at the gynae's, and I've never been so glad of my heterosexuality. I shall never ever date/sleep with/marry a gynaecologist -- can you imagine?? They'd be totally put off [the female] sex! Talk about the quickest way to lose your mojo. Urrgh. Let's just say that as a gynae, you can't ever look at a female body with desire ever again.

Lessons today (after 3 hours of surgery): Cysts look like fishballs. Breasts are stuffed with yellow goop.

  holidays

Oh goody :] The fact that we're on H-O-L-I-D-A-Y has finally sunk in. Was feeling rather guilty actually, earlier on in the week, because I kept waking up to find myself thinking: bloodyhell, I'm ponning again, only to realise a second later that hey! it's the hols! I'm supposed to sleep for as long as I want to! And so I have. You know, it's funny how I've waited so long for the hols to come that it seemed as if it never would, and now that it's finally here I can't believe it! Oh well.

The best part about the holidays, for me anyway, is that we can do whatever we want, whenever we want. And December hols are the best because it's Christmas time, my favorite time of year. I love everything that comes with Christmas -- overstuffed trees and turkey, caroling, the smell of pine and cinammon, presents wrapped in red and green and gold, parties, fairylights ... and best of all, the good cheer. It's so beautiful! Everybody makes an effort to spruce up for Christmas. I especially loved New York, and I wish we were spending Christmas there (FAO schwarz!!). I've been counting down to Christmas since New Year, and now we're only about a month away, at last :]

I hate arial and comic sans. As in. HATE.
  stupidity/the movie buff

Of course there's a perfectly good reason why I waste hours and hours holed up in an overstuffed neckache-inducing chair under sub-zero temperatures with disgusting urrgh-get-over-yourself-already couples gettin' all touchy feely around me. And no, it is NOT to indulge in hanky panky.

Apart from laughing my arse off, bawling my eyes out (well, not quite), wringing my heart sore (well, not quite), doing the whole emotional rollercoaster mambojambo, at the risk of sounding like a hotdang brainless i-won't-even-say-the-word, I like the brain-deadness of the whole thing. You know? Just haul your arse into the darn theatre and for those few hours, allow yourself to get brainwashed, and just not think about blahblah yadaa yadaa implications of this that and whatnot. Just pretend that what you're looking at is actually happening, and allow yourself to get swept up in the impossibility of it all. It's basically just cheap escapism, in my case, from pressure and worry, a respite from having to think and consciously make decisions. You see, in movies, everything's already pre-determined, the impossible seems within reach and the goodies always win, no matter what the odds.

And of course, there's always the popcorn. You can't toss popcorn anywhere else :P Beng assault baby.
  jazzmatazz!

Bugger. I've searched everywhere for Lisa Ekdahl's Back to Earth and as usual, my bad luck prevailed. ARGH! On a sidenote, I've been bogged by a dreadful skull-crackin' thump-thumpin' headache that just won't let up. My brain feels like a giant blister about to explode into a pustulent mess of gooey goopy green snot. Have attempted to astral project into an alternate universe. Plugged on Lisa Ekdahl and whoosh! have been waltzing about gaily in the 1950s.

Haha I think I've worked myself into a blogging frenzy :] It's occupied most of my time the whole week already! I've figured out html (well a little of it anyway) and how to use my digital camera (lordy I must sound so countrified *southern twang*). Well, countrifah-ed or not, I'm having so much fun. This beats beating an egg and rolling in flour anyday, darlin'.

Roses!
I love looking at roses :] Yes I know I know it's awfully predictable, but roses are my favourite flower. Especially the plump, bloody dark-red ones that have a distinct wildish raw look about them. You can't ever find any of those here. They look exquisite next to dark chocolate. I say, together they make the perfect aphrodisiac.

  fear

caresses you in the dead of the night, its icy fingers glide across your face, causing beads of tears to condense unbidden upon your cheek; cloaks your heart, plunging it into an abyssmal darkness, pulling you relentlessly into an everlasting throb of despair that if you do not vanquish, shall leave you forever lost in that unforgiving drumbeat; makes your mind careen out of control, blurring every dream into blinding desolation, eclipsing hope's incandescent light and paralyzing all thought and motion, till Escape becomes an impossibility.

I can't sleep.

S'wonderful, s'marvellous! At last, I've learnt how to post pictures!

I was never one for minimalism, as you will see in the blogs to come. I promise thee pictures, colours galore! Join me as I revel in my newfound picture-posting mania!   futility

If I could scorch you with all the hate and pain and anger I can barely suppress, I would. If I could fling you down down down into the coiling depths of heartfelt despair, I would. If I could bottle all the empathy in the world into a heart and infuse it into your soul to make you understand the anguish you have caused, I would. If just for once I could pierce your impenetrable shield of insouciance, to inflict upon you suffering and fear and feeling, you might be made human. And the burden of my grief shall be placed upon your soul and removed from mine, and you shall take my place in the prison that is Sorrow.

But that will never happen. Because hearts cannot be made, only broken. And you do not have a heart.

  lipstick therapy

A few days back, on a whim, I fished out an ole burgundy lipstick, a yet-unused gift from mom, and started scribbling all over my mirror. And it was great fun, more fun than I've had in a long, long time. T'was fairly liberating, scrawling and doodling whatever first came to mind ("bite my bottom" and "chew my cherry" being among the first and more stupid ones), with a lipstick, vandalising my bathroom no less :]. I've always wanted to, just never got down to it is all. A refreshing, fruity berry scent emanated from the resulting graffiti, perfuming my room. It looked pretty good too.
